Founded in 1970 by three brothers, Cape Mentelle was one of the first estates to be established on the eponymous Cape, just a few miles from the town of Margaret River. This small yet prestigious winemaking region, nestled in the far southwest corner of Australia, on the shores of the Indian Ocean, is considered to be one of the most isolated in the world. Cape Mentelle began production with only 40 acres of vineyards and has now expanded to 370. The estate enjoys a mild and humid maritime climate, plus a long, dry growing season that helps the grapes to ripen. With exceptional know-how and meticulous attention to the expression of terroir and grape quality.
This is a 60/40 blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is partially destemmed, berry sorted, cold soaked and traditionally fermented. Maturation in small oak barriques.
James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "Plums and sweet tobacco with some wet earth on the nose and palate. It shows a vivid and bright palate with very fine tannins and a crisp and long finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
