About Carmim 2017 Monsaraz Reserva, Alentejo DOC
Carmim is a cooperative winery in the Alentejo region of Portugal. Its state-of-the-art facility produces outstanding wines with the help of its 850 members who own over 8600 acres of vineyards. Carmim's wines have been awarded with more than 600 awards in various national and international competitions, and here is the latest award winner.
Monsaraz Reserva is a new wine that changes up the usual formula. Touriga Nacional is blended with Alentajo time-honored favorites Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet (60% Alicante Bouschet, 20% Trincadeira and 20% Touriga Nacional), raising the profile and creating a wine with international style and appeal. Carmim’s 2017 Monsaraz Reserva Red wine has been awarded Best In Show and 97 points (Platinum Medal) in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2020 Competition, one of the most prestigious international wine contests in the world.
The Decanter World Wine Awards is the largest wine competition in the world. It was attended by 116 of the world's leading wine experts, including 37 Masters of Wine and 9 Master Sommeliers, who blindly tasted 16,518 wines. Of all the wines tasted, only 50 were awarded the 'Best in Show' and Monsaraz Reserva Red 2017 was the only wine from Alentejo with this distinction.
They said “Alicante Bouschet is a (red-fleshed) variety, so the saturated dark colour of this Alentejo wine will come as no surprise.
