Centine 2015 Rosso, Toscana IGT, Banfi

Banfi is best known for the outstanding Brunello di Montalcino it produces from The Castello Banfi estate vineyards. This delightful value Super Tuscan red comes in at the other end of the spectrum price-wise and still delivers. A blend of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot with a touch of oak aging. It's a wine that ends up on Best Buy lists every vintage. This 2015 scored 90 points from James Suckling who said "The nose of this younger drinking style wine is fruity and delicious with plenty of fresh blueberry and lavender character. The palate is medium to full in body and extremely tender with mouthwatering acidity. As always, great value on offer here." this 2015 was also awarded "Best of Class" and a Platinum Award with a 94 point score in the San Diego International Wine Challenge. They said "Always one of the wine world’s great values, Banfi’s “Centine” red blend is particularly delicious in 2015.  It shows the fully ripe character imparted by the growing season, which was particularly advantageous for reds, and yet it comes across as a remarkably complete wine, with excellent balancing acidity and savory aromas and flavors to set off the pure fruit notes.  The fact that it would be perfect for pizza is worth noting, but don’t let that suggest that this wine couldn’t dress up for more elaborate fare, as it shows a level of complexity and class that completely belies its asking price.  A blend of  60% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon."
