98 Point Cellar Selection Rare and Limited Bussia Barolo!
Founded by Riccardo Ceretto in 1937, the highly respected winery is now run by his sons, Bruno and Marcello (dubbed the “Barolo Brothers”) who in the 1960s began raising Ceretto’s profile and expanding its holdings. Now their sons and daughters are at the helm of the Langhe DOC company, which holds a total of 120 hectares of land that are the birthplace of an array of elegant still wines, sparkling wines, dessert wines, and spirits.
Winemaker Notes
As the MGA Bussia is the largest cru within the DOCG Barolo, many feel the wine style hard is hard to define, but in general, the Ceretto family feels their wine from Bussia Soprana has "more red-fruit characteristics than other parts of the DOCG rand is consistently a rather rich, deep and fruit-forward Barolo, with silky tannins" that culminate in an incredibly long finish.
98 Points and Cellar Selection Wine Enthusiast!
The elegant nose opens with pristine cherry aromas supported by subtle notes of clove, anise, rosewood and tea. The focused palate continues to highlight ripe cherries and evolves into savory elements. Well-crafted tannins and crunchy acidity give the wine vigor and lift. The wine is generous, rich and superbly balanced. Drink 2028–2040.
96 Points Wine Advocate
An organic wine, the Ceretto 2019 Barolo Bussia is a wine of beautiful depth and streamlined intensity. This Barolo offers dark fruit flavors, but you also get crushed stone, rust, a touch of exotic spice or grilled herb and fresh licorice root. The ensemble is beautiful, and what stands out most is the polished endurance and silky consistency of the mouthfeel.
96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
The 2019 Barolo Bussia is rich, deep and explosive, with all the deeply-pitched, spice and balsamic notes that are so typical of Bussia in full display. A broad, ample Barolo, the Bussia is seriously impressive from start to finish. All the elements are so well balanced. There's plenty of tannin, but it is all nicely integrated into the wine's frame. Time in the glass brings out the wine's inner perfume and explosive energy. This aromatically beguiling, layered Barolo is superb.
96 Points James Suckling
A fine and open grained Bussia with a smoky, grilled meat and spice character to the plum fruit. Medium to full body. Soft and velvety and juicy. This will develop into something very serious.
