St. Emilion Grand Cru from an excellent 95-Point Vintage!
Chateau Cantin is located in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, with 32 hectares on hillsides on a clay-limestone soil. The Chateau itself dates back to the 17th century. In the vineyard, winemakers practice integrated agriculture, and the care given to the vine, to the grapes, to its maturity are things that are vital in the winemaking process. The harvest is manual. The yields are reasonable, between 40 to 45 hectoliters per hectare.
The current 2019 vintage is a careful blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and one of the highest rated vintages ever for their St. Emilion Grand Cru Classe. The wine is aged 12 months in oak barrels(50% new oak).
Wine Enthusiast scored this wine 91 points saying, "A solid wine with dark tannins and rich black fruits, this is concentrated, with juicy acidity matching the firm structure. While the alcohol does show in a touch of pepper, the wine has balance and will be ready from 2024."
