About Chateau Cap De Mourlin 2009 St. Emilion Grand Cru
The Capdemourlin family gave its name to a small hamlet where descendants have continued to live for the past four centuries. Chateau Cap de Mourlin is the oldest of the family’s estates with family winemaking documents dating back to 1647. In 1983, Jacques Capdemourlin pieced together this vineyard, which for many years had been divided between his father and uncle. Considerable renovation work was carried out to equip the estate with the most up-to-date technology for wine-making and cellaring. The 34 acres of vines are in an ideal location on the northern slope of Saint Emilion. The soil is clay-limestone on bedrock and the vine average over 30 years of age. 2009 was an outstanding vintage rated 96 points by Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. Celebrated Enologist Michel Rolland was on hand to make this wine which is 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon age 18 months in 50% new oak barrels. This received 2 out of 3 Stars in the Guide Hachette and the Gilbert & Gaillard Wine Guide scored it 92 points saying "Dark hue. The nose gradually opens up to aromatics mid-way between fruit and oak notes. On the palate, velvety attack leading into an expressive, fruit-driven mid-palate and a full, liquoricy aftertaste that lingers. A wine with good breed that should become more complex." Very Limited!!
