About Chateau Cotes de Blaignan 2016 Medoc, Cru Bourgeois

An incredible value!
There can only be praise for the consistent quality standards at Château Côtes de Blaignan, undoubtedly as a direct result of the Francisco family’s hard work since 1870. A cross on the road to Ordonnac, which was an important landmark on the St. James’ Way pilgrimage route, indicates the path to this family estate, of which certain vineyard plots are next to its neighbor, Château Potensac.

Since 2010, Jean Francisco has handed the baton to his daughter Stéphanie and nephew Claude. They manage the 77 acre vineyard with meticulous care and attention to detail, not unlike a number of prestigious Médoc wines, including yield control, frequent canopy management carried out by hand, sorting and selecting the harvest and 12 months ageing in barriques.  An exemplar of Cru Bourgeois which strikes the perfect balance of fruit and intensity.

Vines average 35 years of age and are planted 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Fermentation is in both stainless-steel and cement tanks, equipped with temperature-control over 8-10 days followed by a long 4-5 week maceration. It's aged 12 months in French oak barriques 1/3 new.

This 2016 has received numerous awards including a Gold Medal in the Concours de Bordeaux Vins d’Aquitaine, a Silver Medal in the  Concours des Grands Vins de France, Mâcon, a  Silver Medal in the  Concours Mundus Vini and 91 points from World's Best Sommelier Andreas Larsson.

James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "Attractive violets and redcurrants with darker forest berries and graphite, too. The palate has a lithe and plush red-fruit core. Vibrant berries abound. Good wine. Try from 2022."

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 91 points saying "The 30-hectar estate, owned by the same family since the 19th century, is on one of the gravel outcrops that indicate quality in the Médoc. This wine has ripe berry fruits, rich tannins and a juicy, smoky character that makes it a classic. Drink from 2021."

Don't miss this fine Cru Bourgeois Medoc at an amazing price!!
