Vanessa Albessard-Aubert is the descendant of a family of wine makers. She has grown up between the vineyards and cellars her ancestors have cultivated on the Right Bank of Bordeaux since 1732. Her philosophy is simply, in order to make a great wine, it must simply retain the purest expression of the terroir.
In 2015, she decided to honor the legacy of her father, Daniel Aubert, by naming this special cuvee from the outstanding 2016 vintage after him.
Grapes were hand-harvested from the 25-year-old vines are planted in 7 acres of deep sandy gravel soils. The grapes were vinified in temperature controlled stainless-steel vats. After the vinification process, the wine was neither fined nor filtered to obtain its natural stabilization. This cuvee, a blend of 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc, was aged for 24-months with 30% of the juice in new barrels and 70% in stainless-steel tanks.
International Wine Report scored this 93 points saying "The 2016 Château d'Anielle begins with expressive aromas of dark cherries, cassis, charred soil and fresh pipe tobacco which immediately emerge from the glass. On the palate this possesses a medium-plus body that is well-structured with gorgeous, polished tannins that are backed by a core of ripe fruit that expands beautifully across the palate. This is showing incredible in its youth; however it also has the potential for a wonderful evolution."
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 90 points saying “This is a full-bodied, no-holds-barred wine, packed with dense black fruit. Tannins are still present in the powerful structure while just leaving room for enough acidity to give a shot of freshness. Drink from 2021.”
