About Chateau de Camensac 2000 Grand Cru Classe, Haut-Medoc
Here's a perfectly mature Classified Bordeaux direct from the Chateau's cellars. The vineyards of Chateau Camensac are just outside of the St-Julien-Beychevelle appellation. . The estate's 156 acres of vines (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot) are densely planted and average 35 years of age. The estate limits yields to 3 tons per acre and grapes are picked and sorted by hand.
On release Wine Spectator said of this 2000 "This is big and tannic, with loads of concentration. Full-bodied, chewy and impressive. Leave it for a long time. Super price for a cru classé."
Jancis Robinson said "Really very good indeed. Deep crimson. Meaty and savoury with just a hint of that velvety texture that so many 1990s exhibit. Quite a high tannin content but these are ripe, well-masked tannins."
The Wine Advocate said "A sleeper of the vintage, with a characteristic not dissimilar from a good St.-Julien, the medium-bodied 2000 offers up scents of vanilla intermixed with black currant and licorice. With moderately high tannin, excellent depth, purity, and overall harmony, it is certainly capable of considerable longevity."
