About Chateau de Francs 2018 Francs, Cotes de Bordeaux

Our Value Bordeaux Wine of the Year!

Here's an amazing under-the-radar find! The Chateau de Franc is a property that dates back to the 1400's. it was in the mid-1980's that two childhood friends- Dominique Hebrard, ex-co-owner of Château Cheval Blanc, and Hubert De Boüard, co-owner of château Angelus - fell in love with this property and decided to join in together as co-owners.  Totally restoring the property and winery this jewel of the tiny Franc, Cotes de Bordeaux appellation on the right bank of the Gironde, has nearly 90 acres of vineyards located on the highest hills in the region. They are planted 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc on chalky clay soils and the vines average 25 years of age. With a dynamic team in place who manage this property with passion and enthusiasm, the wines truly stand out and over-achieve.

This 2018  was carefully harvested and hand sorted at the winery. Fermentation was in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Aging was half in tank and half in oak barrels for 14 months.

Forbes Magazine scored this 97 points and said  "A 70/20/10 blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Wispy light and yet powerful aromas of blackberries, plums, sage, moist earth, morels and licorice. A touch of attractive herbaceous aromas such as ferns. In the mouth this is a rich, silky, juicy beauty: a bucket of fresh, glistening fruit. Generous and opulent flavors of plum jam, mint chocolate and treacle. Well layered tannins underlie complex and satisfying flavors. Glorious! Pair with duck a l’orange, a sirloin steak or a squash/ mushroom rigatoni."
