About Chateau Grand Verdus 2016 Generation, Bordeaux Superieur

Chateau Le Grand Verdus is a very atypical estate with a beautiful story from the beginning of the 19th century (with a superb Renaissance manor dating from 1579, listed at UNESCO Historic Heritage, where the family still lives). The Chateau was purchased in 1810 by an ancestor, Claude Deschamps, who was an architect for Napoleon 1st (he designed the famous bridge Pont de Pierre in Bordeaux).

The creation of the vineyards began in 1949 and has since been producing high quality Bordeaux wines that are universally recognized and exported 32 countries. The estate lies near Saint Emilion and boasts 276 acres of vines with various microclimates and unique terroir variation. Their successful Bordeaux winemaking has been passed down from generation to generation and today, father and sons, Antoine, Thomas and Edouard continue this great heritage.

This wine is a special cuvee whose name "Generation", reflects the long history of the family owners of this estate. From the outstanding 2016 vintage, the wine shows of the exceptional expression of Cabernet Franc (55%) and Merlot (45%) that grow in the chalky clay soils. Grapes are hand harvested and carefully triaged and selected in the winery. A cold soak is followed by temperature controlled fermentation and the wine was aged 13 months in French oak barrels.

A bronze Medal from Decanter and 90 Points from "Best Sommelier in the World" Andreas Larsson, this supple Bordeaux shows beautiful dark berry notes along with hints of spice, roasted nuts and cedar on the nose. The palate is silky and rich with black currants dried black cherries, roasted coffee, minerals and cigar box cedar. The finish lingers with berries and spice. Limited!
