The Chateau Grand Village estate is owned by Jacques Guinaudeau, owner and winemaker of the illustrious and very rare Chateau Lafleur Pomerol. For the last twenty years they have been writing a new chapter in its story. Then their son Baptiste and his wife Julie joined in the beginning of the new millennium, and together they embarked on a new adventure, taking a bold decision to work the vineyard and vinify the wines of Grand Village with the same approach and philosophy as Chateau Lafleur. Chateau Grand Village quickly became a singular wine, a down to earth Bordeaux crafted with the means and in the spirit of a grand cru.
The estate is managed in the same way as Lafleur using classic "jardinage" technique: crop thinning, hand harvesting, table sorting, small batch fermentations preceded by a gentle cold soak and micro vinifications. This wine is from the outstanding 2016 vintage and is showing beautifully right now.
Vinous scored this 91 points saying "The 2016 Grand Village is a big wine. The natural richness of the year is evident in the wine's exuberant fruit and plush, dense feel. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, sweet spice and lavender all race out of the glass. Today, the ripeness of the vintage is quite evident in the wine's intense profile and overall feel. The 2016 spent 14-15 months in oak, 30% new.
