This is a very exciting find! Chateau Haut Boutisse is a private 500-case selection of casks from Chateau Palais Cardinal in southern Saint-Emilion. Here the La Fuie stream runs through and brings a band of gravel which drains the soils and gives the Cabernet an intense fruitiness. The clay and chalk give the Merlot its expression and famed Enologist Michel Rolland helps to do the rest.
The vines average a mature 40 years of age with deep roots. This wine from the top-rated 2018 vintage is a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are all hand-picked and sorted. A short cold maceration is followed by fermentation in temperature controlled tanks. The wine aged on the lees for 20 months partially in the tank and partially in 30% new French oak barrels.
International Wine Report scored this 91 points saying "The 2018 Château Haut-Boutisse Saint-Emilion Grand Cru offers inviting aromas of dark cherries and red plums which are laced with tobacco, spices and hints of wet stones which all come together in the glass. On the palate this is medium-bodied with a gorgeous silky texture and lovely overall balance through the pretty finish. This is accessible now and should continue to cellar nicely with some short-term cellaring."
A very limited amount came our way, don't miss this gem while it's On Sale!!
