Located on the first watershed of the Cotes de Bourg, Chateau Landreau was acquired by the Bayle-Carreau family in 1995. The vineyard ceased to produce wine for 30 years following the frost of 1956. It has since been renovated and Chateau Landreau is restored its original function with the most modern winemaking equipment.
The soil consists of clay and red gravel. The vineyard has excellent southwest facing sun exposure and broken topography, and has all the features necessary for producing wines of exceptional quality. The château affords a view of the Gironde Estuary, as well as Bordeaux’s left bank.
The 35 acres are planted to 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon averaging 25 years of age. Respectful of the environment, the vines are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable viticulture.
Grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and undergo cold skin contact before fermentation. Fermentation is in stainless-steel tanks with automatic thermoregulation and maceration lasts 3 to 4 weeks. The wine then ages 12 to 14 months in oak barrels before bottling.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 92 points saying "Made with firmly structured Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon, this solid wine conveys a sense of power and concentration. Richness is seen in full-bodied black fruits that are balanced by acidity. This is a wine with a good future; drink from 2021." On Sale!!!
