In 1988, Nicolas Thienpont and his brothers bought Les Charmes Godard, a property of 16 acres, which produces both red and white wine and, starting in 2005, a dessert wine called "Aurea".
In the Charmes Godard white, it is both the predominance of Semillon and the winemaking techniques (barrel fermentation and lies contact) that give the wine its richness and unctuousness, as well as good supporting acidity. Its aromatic complexity is due to judicious blending with Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris.
James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "A vibrant and fresh white with crisp and zesty notes of lemons, green apples, pineapple and flint. Medium body. Very fresh and drinkable. Two-thirds semillon and one-third sauvignon blanc."
Decanter scored this 91 points saying "Fresh and zesty, clean and crisp, this has good balance between being succulent and juicy, almost sherbet and then creamy and supple. Good persistence and intensity, no let down in the middle with a joyful lift on the finish."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave this 90 points saying "The 2021 Les Charmes-Godard Blanc is a Sémillon-dominant blend vinified in mostly used 500-liter barrels. Offering up aromas of yellow orchard fruit and citrus zest, it's medium to full-bodied, saline and lively, showing fine potential."
