A stunning value from the top-rated 2016 vintage in Bordeaux! After several years working on his father’s farm, Henri Négrier bought his first parcel of vines in the prestigious Haut-Medoc in 1978. He started out growing wine grapes selling them to the cooperative cellar of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne. In 1990, he was finally able to transform his old stables into a modern winery and cellar. The estate has expanded steadily since then and he now farms 60 acres of Haut-Médoc vines that average a mature 40 to 50 years of age.
The vineyard is well situated on the gravel hills the left bank of the Gironde. It's in very good company, surrounded by the finest chateaux of the Haut-Médoc.
This wine is the latest release from the 2016 vintage which was rated 98 points overall in the Medoc. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, the wine aged 12 months in French oak barrels.
The wine shows a deep red color and the nose releases notes of black currant, black cherry and cedar spice. In the mouth it shows more red and black fruits, anise and spice notes, with a rich mouthfeel from supple, polished tannins. A wine that drinks beautifully now but with also cellar and age gracefully over the next 4-6 years.
