Clarendelle 2013 Red Bordeaux, Clarence Dillon

Inspired by Haut-Brion, this elegant red Bordeaux is produced by the owners of that historic Chateau. Clarence Dillon purchased the estate in 1935 and his family has been in command ever since. Meanwhile they have branched out and acquired other winegrowing estates in Bordeaux and around the world, but their roots are firmly planted in Bordeaux which is why Clarendelle was an obvious next step. And with it they've created an affordable, fine quality Bordeaux wine for every day. This red shows its pedigree and its panache. Overseen from start to finish by Clarence Dillon's great-grandson, Prince Robert de Luxembourg and his team that produces the Haut-Brion and Mission Haut-Brion wines, this classy Bordeaux starts with a small percentage of wine from those venerable estates enhanced with other quality selections. In 2013 because of the difficulty of the vintage the percentage of estate wine in this blend was greatly expanded. Modern winemaking techniques and expertise, combined with careful attention, made it possible to produce a Clarendelle fully worthy of its reputation. The final blend is a carefully composed 73 % Merlot, 14 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 13 % Cabernet Franc aged in French oak barrels before bottling but then, perhaps most importantly the wine is aged in bottle for an extended period so that upon release it will be perfectly integrated and ready to enjoy. It shows a perfumed nose and elegant, mouthfilling flavors with a deep core and silky tannins. This is the perfect wine to drink now while your Haut-Brion is maturing in your cellar.
