About Clos des Jacobins 2018 Reserve Des Jacobins

Clos des Jacobins, which takes its name from an order of Benedictine Monks baptized as Jacobins, for Saint-Jacques, the patron saint of the Parisian convent. The vineyard can date its creation back to the 1700s. However, the modern era begins when it was purchased in 1964 by Jean Georges Cordier. Cordier is a member of the well-known negociant family that is best associated with owning Chateau Gruaud Larose and Chateau Talbot in St. Julien.

The Decoster family purchased Clos des Jacobins in 2004 from Gerald Frydman. In part, they were inspired to buy the estate due to the success their relatives, Florence Decoster and Dominique Decoster were having at Chateau Fleur Cardinale, which is also located in the Saint Emilion appellation.

James Suckling scored this 94 points saying "A cool and driven young Bordeaux with blueberries, chocolate and hints of walnuts on the nose and palate. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Lovely."

Vinous gave this 93 points saying "The 2018 Clos des Jacobins is suave and beautifully nuanced in the glass. Bright floral notes add lift to a core of red cherry/raspberry fruit. Medium in body and silky, the 2018 is an attractive, mid-weight Saint-Émilion that will drink well with minimal cellaring. This is very nicely done."

Jeb Dunnuck scored this 92 points "Plenty of spice, tobacco, and both red and black fruits emerge from the 2018 Clos Des Jacobin. Nicely textured, medium-bodied, and balanced on the palate, it's another 2018 that has terrific purity and elegance as well as the sexy, sunny style of the vintage."
