About Colosi 2020 Grillo, Sicilia
Since 1987 Cantine Colosi has been producing native Sicilian wines. Consisting of 24 acres of vineyards in Salina, a small island in the Eolian Archipelago, Colosi occupies an area of the island recognized for both its orientation and for the physical-chemical nature of the soil whose volcanic origins are particularly suitable for vine cultivation. The new winemaking cellar, surrounded by the Malvasia vineyards, was completed in 2004.
The winery is located underground in order to have a constant temperature for the optimum care of the wine and to respect the strict preservation rules of the Eolian archipelago. With three generations of experience, Colosi is led by enologist Pietro Colosi in collaboration with his father Piero.
Grillo is an indigenous Sicilian white grape variety once used as the base for the best Marsala. Originally it produced potent, full-bodied base wines that were supplemented by other varietals such as Inzolia and Catarratto. Sicilian producers have since resurrected their Grillo vineyards and are now producing Grillo as its own wonderfully fresh and clean varietal. Colosi is one of the finest producers of Grillo.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine selected this as a Top 100 Best Buy of 2021. They scored it 90 points and said "Certified vegan, this bright, savory white offers aromas of lime, white spring flowers and Mediterranean herbs. On the refreshing, tangy palate, crisp acidity accompanies juicy pink grapefruit, orange zest and peach before a salty finish."
