About Costaripa 2018 Rosamara, Rose, Valtenesi Chiaretto DOC
Located on the shores of Lake Garda, Costaripa was founded in 1936. Mattia Vezzola Sr. fell in love with the well ventilated, sloping morainic vineyards that face Lake Garda and decided to purchase a piece of land that had been impeccably cultivated as far back as the late 1800s. Today the winery is run by his grandson also named Mattia Vezzola who brought his love of Lombardy’s native varietals and combined it with skills he developed while working in Burgundy.
This rose is 60% Groppello, 5% Sangiovese, 30% Marzemino and 5% Barbera produced by the “Droplet” vinification method. This is is when the winemaker allows a dripping of the free-run juice when fermentation has just begun, without the use of pressure. Half of the must ferments and develops in small oak casks for approximately six months.
Vinous scored this wine 90 points saying "Bright pink. Fresh red berries, tea leaf, and spices on the nose and in the mouth. Smooth and open-knit, with a subtle note of sweetness adding flesh to the fruity, persistent finish. More generous in style than most Valtènesi Chiarettos. Made of Barbera, Groppello Gentile, Sangiovese and Marzemino, an intriguing blend typical of this specific denomination."
