About Daou 2018 The Pessimist Red Blend, Paso Robles

This exceptional red blend is from Daou in Paso Robles, about whom the Connoisseurs Guide said "In only a few years, DAOU has established itself as not only one of the most significant producers in Paso Robles, but a winery whose astonishing breadth of successes has justifiably earned it a place among the very best in the state." and The Wine Advocate said "this is a no expense-spared operation and they’re producing first-class wines."

Taking advantage of the diversity of grape varieties grown in Paso Robles this rich red is a blend of 62% Petite Sirah, 20% Zinfandel, 16% Syrah and 2% Lagrein.

Jeb Dunnuck scored a barrel sample 90-92 saying "The Pessimist cuvée by the Daou Brothers is always a good value for those who love opulent fruit, and the 2018 offers loads of sweet blue fruits, white chocolate, violets, and toasted spice aromas and flavors. Based on 62% Petite Sirah, 19% Zinfandel, and 17% Syrah, it’s full-bodied, decadent, and rich while staying light on its feet. I’d be happy to drink it."

The Wine Advocate scored this 92 points saying "The 2018 Pessimist is a barrel sample blend of 62% Petite Sirah, 19% Zinfandel, 17% Syrah and 2% Lagrein. It is expected to age for 11 months in 50% new French oak. Opaque ruby-purple, it offers up tar, chargrill, turned black earth and blackcurrants with wafts of blackcurrant bud, dark chocolate, smoked meats and crushed red cherries. The medium to full-bodied palate has lifted flavor layers, a firm, grainy frame and long, spicy, fresh finish."
