About Diora 2019 Chardonnay, La Splendeur du Soleil, Monterey
Diora La Splendeur Du Soleil Chardonnay is an impressive creation from Delicato Family Wines, owners of the beautiful San Bernabe Vineyard in Monterey county. This Chard is a blend of six different vineyard blocks from San Bernabe Vineyard and the Santa Lucia Highlands. ln each block, there are typically 3-4 different clones of Chardonnay adding their own unique characteristics and complexity to the final blend. The San Bernabe Vineyard has sandy soils that are free draining, allowing the vines to develop deep root systems. The climate is much warmer during the day and cools down in the afternoon as the prevailing afternoon winds funnel down from Monterey Bay allowing for the development of more tropical characters such as pineapple, guava, and stone fruit. This is complemented by the Santa Lucia Highlands grapes which provide more citrusy characters such as orange and grapefruit. The final blend is 20% Santa Lucia Highlands and 80% San Bernabe. The wine aged 14 months in mostly French oak barrels, 45% new.

They scored it 93 points, saying "Excellently presented aromas of butter, nectarine, warm almond and white flower are delicate but expressive on the nose of this bottling. An immediate acidity races through the palate, lifting the toasty and buttery elements while pairing smartly against the ripe citrus and white flower elements."
