The Neveu family, viticulteurs father and son, have been based in the heart of the Chavignol vineyards for generations, and today carry on the tradition of the great Sancerrois vignerons.
Valérie (André Neveu’s daughter), and her husband Thomas, now run the domaine that extends to about 13 hectares of vines of AOC Sancerre red, white and rosé. They harvest, vinify and sell everything themselves.
From the sauvignon grape whose vines are planted on the Sancerre hillside, a terroir composed exclusively of Silex. Vinification is carried out in temperature controlled inox tanks. Dry and fruity, it shows mineral typicity, and its particular "gun flint" taste over several years. Best served chilled (10-12°C). It goes well with oysters, shellfish, and goat’s cheese, such as the famous "Crottin de Chavignol".
At harvest, the fruit is machine harvested and destemmed before pressing and transferred to steel tank for a cold soak prior to the start of fermentation. The wine is then aged in steel tank for roughly 6 months before bottling. The wines always go through full malo-lactic fermentation. The flagship wine and bulk of production, resides in the Le Grand Fricambault parcel within ‘Le Butte de Sancerre.’ The domaine’s plot here totals 5 hectares. This is also where the Pinot Noir vines are planted for Sancerre Rouge and Rosé production.
Pale gold with a clear brilliance. Powerful, the aromas as varied as they are classic: citrus fruits are well represented, (lemon, blood orange), spiced with a subtle hint of boxwood and broom. The attack is ample and tender. A good balance between roundness and freshness shows on the mid-palate. Clean and lively on the finish, the persistent retro-olfaction has fruity notes of apricot and peach, this is a white Sancerre with a forthright character.
