About Domaine Belle 2015 Crozes-Hermitage, Cuvee Louis Belle

The Domaine Belle has always been a family holding, passed on from generation to generation, promoting the special terroir with its white clay soils, often called ‘Les Terres Blanches’.

In 2006, the purchase of a small neighboring vineyard in the commune of Crozes-Hermitage led to the enlarging and modernization of the Domaine’s winery.

Today, Domaine Belle stretches over six communes (Larnage, Crozes-Hermitage, Tain l’Hermitage, Pont de l’Isère, Mercurol and Tournon), three appellations (Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Saint Joseph) and covers an area of 62 acres of vines.

This wine is one of their most popular cuvees, it's named for the patriarch of the Belle family. 100% Syrah from vineyards converting to organic. Fermented in stainless steel with partial destemming over four weeks with indigenous yeasts. Aged entirely in oak barrels for 18 months, with 15% new.

Wine Spectator scored it 92 points saying "A warm, inviting style, with lush raspberry, plum and boysenberry preserve flavors gliding through, laced liberally with cocoa and warm tobacco accents. A flash of iron keeps this honest enough, while the fruit drips through the finish. Drink now through 2021."

Jeb Dunnuck scored it 94 points saying "I also loved the 2015 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Louis Belle which saw a traditional vinification followed by 20 months in French oak. Blackberry, currants, blueberries, violets and hints of black pepper give way to a rich, expansive, opulent Syrah that has sweet tannin and a great finish. Give it a few years of bottle age and enjoy over the following decade or more. I always love the wines from this tiny estate and they’ve made a number of brilliant wines in 2015."

The Wine Advocate scored this 94 points saying "The 2015 Crozes Hermitage Cuvee Louis Belle is cedary and rich, full-bodied and amply endowed with dark berry fruit and velvety tannins. It does show too much oak to be truly classic, but it's hedonistically delicious in a clean, modern style. It has a decade or more of pleasure ahead of it. Domaine Belle is one of the most consistent and reliable producers of Crozes Hermitage. While the family doesn't shy away from the use of oak, there's either less new oak than there used to be, or the wines are more intense and fruity, because in 2015 and 2016 they seem to have got the balance close to perfect. Philippe Belle, joined by his son, Guillaume, showed me the latest vintages during my visit in early November."
