Half Btl. 375 ml The estate of Gerard Chavy has now been split into two separate estates by his sons, Jean-Louis Chavy, and Alain Chavy. Jean-Louis has built a brand new winemaking facility and a deep temperature controlled cellar at the bottom of the village. Vinification is classic barrel fermentation with temperature control and only natural yeasts. For the elevage of the wines the use of new oak is restrained with just 25% new oak for Premier Crus. This Puligny Montrachet 1er cru "Folatieres"is from two separate plots of 25-45 year old vines, one in the steepest stoniest part close to Blagny which contributes excellent acidity and structure. The other part is from lower down where the soil is richer and this part gives greater richness and depth to the wine. This shows wonderful intensity and generosity.
The Wine Advocate scored this 90-92 saying "The 2014 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Folatières is more taciturn on the nose compared to the Les Pucelles, here, showing a touch of oyster shell, a subtle marine/crustacean influence. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry with good density in the mouth, a little richer than the Pucelles though without the same finesse and nervosité on the finish, at least at the moment. Give it 3-5 years in bottle because it may well offer more, because I like the salinity on the aftertaste."
