About Domaine de L'A 2015 Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux

Domaine de l’A was created in 1999 by Christine and Stephane Derenoncourt, wine growers of Bordeaux and internationally celebrated enologists at properties including Domaine de Chevalier, Clos Fourtet, Chateaux Pavie-Macquin, Canon-la-Gaffelière, La Gaffelière, Smith Haut Lafitte, Les Carmes Haut-Brion and Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse as well as Rubicon Estate in Napa Valley.

Situated in the district of Sainte-Colombein Cotes de Castillon, the eastern slopes of which are adjacent to those of Saint-Emilion. Soils are a continuation of the highly sought-after calcareous limestone vein that is shared by most Grands Crus and prestigious estates in that area. The average age of the vines is 40 years.

Handpicked harvest. Grape sorting in the vineyard and cellar, before de-stemming. Transfer of the harvest on a conveyor belt into oak casks. Pumping over the juice and cap punching. Alcoholic fermentation exclusively carried out by indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged until maturity in barrels for an average period of 16–18 months. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc.

Wine Spectator scored this 92 points saying "A focused, racy beam of cassis and plum fruit is flanked by lightly singed apple wood and tobacco hints. A flash of chalky minerality through the finish adds length. Reveals a backdrop of warm toast that remains integrated throughout. Well-built. Best from 2020 through 2027."

James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "Stand back for this bold wine with ripe black fruits, lavender and chocolate on the nose and big yet somehow elegant tannin structure that makes the finish graceful and should carry it for many years ahead."

Vinous scored this 91 points saying "The 2015 Domaine de l'A is one of the more flamboyant, extroverted wines in the Côtes de Castillon this year. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, licorice, mocha, espresso and tobacco infuse this sumptuous, racy wine. The 2015 is a stellar wine from Stéphane and Christiane Derenoncourt. Domaine de l'A is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, of which 20% has whole clusters."

Decanter scored this 91 points saying "Fresh and fragrant, the fruit exuberant and tannins dense and finely edged. Rich but vibrant with tension and form."
