Vincent and Stephanie Boyer's domaine in Visan contains great historical reference in winemaking and European feudalism. The building in which Vincent's family resides is surrounded by old Mourvèdre vines and fig and cherry trees. It is a fortified farmhouse that was built by Templar knights in the middle ages who achieved great wealth and prominence in the 12th and 13th centuries and established many farms and vineyards.
The Bastide property is a historical place where Vincent and Stephanie, also a trained oenologist, carry forward the domaine with energy, innovation and focus.
This Rhone red is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Carignan from 25 year old vines. Maceration is 8-15 days with twice daily pump-over for full color extraction and balanced tannins. the wine then aged in tank for 3-4 months.
The New York Times selected it as one of the Best 20 Wines Under $20 saying "Cotes du Rhone was once a go-to choice at French restaurants, where it offered easygoing refreshment that could bridge many disparate dishes. This bottle is a throwback reminder of how good those wines were, and perhaps another sign that Southern Rhone producers, who for quite some time have been aiming for power and impact, are returning to making wines of balance and restraint. It’s composed of grenache, syrah, carignan and mourvèdre, smells like red fruits and flowers, and goes down easy."
