Domaine Louis Latour covers 115 acres of vineyard, including 65 acres of Grand Cru, and is the largest holding of Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. The grapes for this wine are sourced from their vineyards on the Corton hill's south-easterly facing parcels: Clos du Roi, Les Bressandes, Les Grèves and Les Perrières. All Grand Cru of course. The Louis Latour team manages these mature 40 year old Pinot Noir vines very carefully, carrying out strict pruning and insuring low yields and good maturity. The wine ages 10 to 12 months in 15% new French oak barrels, medium toasted.
This 2013 is steal. To find a Grand Cru Burgundy below $100 is practically unheard of and this wine delivers. Intense aroma and flavors of dried cherry dried strawberry, cranberry, roasted coffee, forest floor and pungent mushrooms. Enjoy it now after breather 20-30 minutes or cellar for another 3-5 years.
