Grapes for this Dona Paula Estate Malbec were sourced from their two best vineyards located in the high Uco Valley. Finca Los Indios in Altamira (San Carlos) provides grapes with supple texture and deep red fruit flavors and The Finca Alluvia in Gualtallary (Tupungato) at over 4,400 feet of altitude provides grapes with firm structure, acidity and minerality. Drip irrigation is utilized in these arid high altitude settings which are sun-drenched but experience a wide temperature variation of almost 40 degrees F between day and night. At Doa Paula, vineyards have always been managed using sustainable agriculture practices. A two week cold soak extracts color, aromas and forward flavors. 10 months in French oak barrels adds a compelling complexity to this 100% Malbec. The 2013 scored 90 points. This 2014 is equally lush and inviting. Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "High-elevation aromas of blueberry, herbs and bramble are accented by cumin and spiced-plum notes. This displays ample size and grip, while flavors of roasted plum and savory spices are earthy. On the finish, this is oaky and minty tasting."
