About Duckhorn 2013 Merlot, Three Palms Vyd., Napa Valley, Magnum, 1.5 Liter

Magnum, 1.5Liter

Probably the most famous and celebrated Merlot that Napa Valley produces, Duckhorn Three Palms Vineyard is a true testament to the quality and character that Merlot can achieve in this ideal microclimate. Named for its three iconic palm trees, the warm, up valley vineyard features lean soils that cause the vines to send their roots deep in search of nutrients, producing an intense, age-worthy wine with complex fruit and mineral layers. This 2013 is 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot aged in 100% French oak barrels 75% new for 18 Months. From the outstanding 2013 vintage, Wine Review Online scored this Three Palms Merlot 98 points saying "Just when you think that Duckhorn can't get any better, this vintage of their flagship wine comes along. Depth, complexity, weight, elegance, unabashed varietal character, age-worthy structure -- it's all here in what could be the best Three Palms ever. Rich cherry, menthol, tea, cassis, earth and spice aromas and flavors are so enticing now that you'll have a hard time cellaring some. I like to hide wines like this under a bunch of heavy stuff that make it difficult to reach so that some survives into full maturity. Maybe that's a sign of my lack of maturity, but there you go. Stunning Merlot! Contains 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot."
