About Escorihuela 2020 The President's Malbec, Uco Valley

Located in the heart of the city, the Escorihuela Gascón winery is the oldest working winery in Mendoza. In 1880 Miguel Escorihuela Gascón immigrated to Argentina, from Aragon, Spain. He arrived to Buenos Aires and had his first contact with wine while working in a grocery store. He moved to Mendoza and in 1884 he managed to buy 17 hectares of land, plant vineyards and start building Bodegas Escorihuela. Miguel passed away in September of 1933 and the winery continued in control of his nephew and the people who started with him until 1993. Pioneering winegrower Nicolas Catena decides to buy the company, and start the necessary investments to again make Escorihuela one of the leading Argentine wineries.

Under the leadership of Ernesto Catena, oldest son of Nicolas Catena, the Escorihuela Gascón team has been working hard to achieve their mission: become Argentina’s leading winery, recognized in all markets of their interest, for the excellent quality of their wines, the respect for years of tradition, and the commitment of both its human resources and its suppliers.

The President’s Blend is their iconic blend made with three varieties marked by a strong identity: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. It results from the search and accomplishment of refined elegance and outstanding precision in the blend. The blend is 85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah.

Wine and Spirits scored this 2020 92 points saying, "This is a blend of malbecs from Uco and Patagonia. Some dark spices, tree bark and black cherries. The juicy, medium-bodied palate delivers some peppery berry fruit and some fine-grained tannins. Nicely grippy finish. Drink now or hold."

James Suckling also scored this 92 points saying, "The 2020 Malbec The President's Malbec is a combination of grapes from Patagonia and the Uco Valley aged in 80% new barrels. Purple in hue, the nose presents notes of plum and blackberry jam with redcurrant and refined oaky aromas. Mildly concentrated with an opulent start, it leaves a layer of extract on the tongue. Still developing, this is a wine to be drunk in at least two years."
