About Far Niente Estate 2019 Chardonnay Napa Valley
Far Niente Chardonnay has earned its reputation as one of the great white wines worthy of aging. The grapes are hand picked from the various estate vineyards and then hand sorted at the winery. Shortly after starting fermentation in stainless tanks, the must is racked into a high percentage of new French oak barrels. To assure proper development, the barrels are topped biweekly, allowing the wine to age gracefully on its yeast lees for eight months. The winemaker evaluates each barrel for quality and style before it may be included in the blend.
This wine is a classic Far Niente Chard, with a full, firm structure, lush roundness, intense fruit and spicy oak. Enjoy it now or let it continue to age and develop in your cellar for 5 or more years.
This 2019 was scored 95 points by Tasting Panel Magazine who said "Coombsville vineyards protected by the hills east of downtown Napa are home to this Chardonnay. They’re as cool as Carneros but less windy, with deeper soils of gravel and volcanic ash, and their influence on this dignified white shows in its complex persona. A fine balance of stone fruit, acid structure, and zingy citrus creates a tangible yet delicate mouthfeel. Honeysuckle and gardenia offer significant floral tones."
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 94 points saying "Spicy oak and bright acidity complement each other in this well-made white, which shows strong tones of crisp citrus and green apple. It builds body on the midpalate, with integrated woody notes and lasting richness."
