Rare Rhone Red from and estate managed by Michel Chapoutier!
At the origin, Jean Orëns Ferraton, Vigneron, and son of a vigneron founded Ferraton Pere et Fils. The winery owns vineyards in the appellations of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph. A close friend of the Ferratons’, Michel Chapoutier now manages the estate and brought his considerable know-how. In 1998, the vineyards were converted to organic viticulture, then certified, before embracing the culture of bio-dynamics.
Grapes for this St. Joseph red are 100% Syrah and sourced from vineyards with granite soils on the right bank of the Rhône river, on the foothills of the Massif Central. The grapes are destemmed and the vinification takes place in temperature-controlled vats. Full extraction is made by punching down and pumping over, the maceration lasts around 20 days. The wine is partly aged in oak barrels for about 12 months.
Jeb Dunnuck scored this 93 points saying "The inky colored 2015 Saint Joseph La Source is a youthful, yet incredibly elegant St Joseph that offers classic black (and some blue) fruits, crushed rock-like minerality and lots of black pepper. Fresh, focused, and elegant on the palate, yet with a youthful, backward vibe, it needs 2-4 years of bottle age."
Jeb Dunnuck also said "The only downside to these latest releases from Ferraton? They’re made in tiny quantities and there’s just not enough to go around." So don't wait to grab this outstanding Rhone red.
