About Folie a Deux 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley
Named our 2021 Wine of the Year!
Folie a Deux has blossomed since coming under the Trinchero family umbrella in 2004. Under Bob Trinchero, the proprietor of several renowned California wineries, the quality at Folie a Deux has skyrocketed. Alexander Valley is one of the premier regions in all of California for Cabernet Sauvignon, lead by giants like Jordan, Silver Oak, Simi, Stonestreet and many more.
Grapes for this Cab were sourced primarily from their Cloverdale Estate vineyard in the heart of Alexander Valley. 2017 brought abundant sunshine allowing the grapes to ripen evenly throughout the growing season. The fruit yielded rich flavors and soft tannins. This Cab underwent a maceration period of 10 to 16 days which brought rich color, medium body, balanced mouthfeel and excellent aging potential. 985 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, the wine was aged for 22 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak barrels, 22% new.
James Suckling scored this 92 points saying "Tight and focused for a 2017 with plenty of ripe-berry and light spice character. Cedar and walnut undertones. It’s medium to full-bodied with medium chewy tannins and finish."
