About Gaja 2015 Magari, Ca' Marcanda, Bolgheri DOC
From Angelo Gaja's Bolgheri estate, Ca' Marcanda, Magari means "if only it were true!", an expression used often in Italian to express desire, hope, and a vision of a bright future. The 2015 Magari is marked by a change in blend. Over 20 years of learning on this property have brought many discoveries, an exciting one being the profound excellence of Cabernet Franc. This late-ripening variety expresses fresh notes and has more moderate alcohol. As the vines have aged and reached further maturity, it has become apparent that Cabernet Franc can really shine in a starring role, hence the blend change. 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot 100% Estate, the wine ages in oak for a period of 12 months and then undergoes several months of bottle aging before it is released. The Wine Advocate scored this 95 points saying "The 2015 Bolgheri Rosso Magari is a dark, rich and exuberant wine that so faithfully reflects that unique Gaja signature. There's nothing not to love here. The wine drinks beautifully and smoothly, caressing all the senses with sensual silkiness. The 2015 vintage delivers plump and extra supple fruit that further underlines the house style at Ca' Marcanda. Dark berries and spice intermingle with seamless intensity. The wine offers firm grip and long-lasting power on the finish. This is Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot."
