About Garavin 2018 Meritage Red Blend, Knights Valley
Garavin, translated from Old English, means "wine from a unique land". They believe that fruit grown in marginal, low-yielding mountain locales produce wines of exceptional complexity, balance, and distinction. Their mission is to source Cabernet Sauvignon from challenging vineyard sites to create exclusive, age worthy wines that directly reflect the unique place in which they were grown.
This Linked Vineyard is a truly remarkable site balanced at 1200 feet on a west facing hillside at the southwest corner of Knights Valley. Composed of rocky volcanic soils, this unique vineyard sits just above the fog line and looks over both Napa and Sonoma Counties. The steep terrain and shallow soil composition of our hillside block causes a desirable stress upon the vines as water drains freely, depleting soil nutrients and reducing vine vigor.
This wine is composed of a perfect blend of mountain grown Cabernet Sauvignon (49%), and Merlot (51%) from the valley floor below. Notes of ripe black cherries, cocoa and graphite emerge slowly from the glass. Elements of clove and cedar persist due to long term aging in a carefully measured balance of new French oak (22 Months and 50% new) barrels. Exceptionally round and approachable, this offering is ready to drink now or will age gracefully in the cellar.
