About Gerard Bertrand 2016 Banyuls AOP
Banyuls is a Vin Doux Naturel made from 100% Grenache, a delightfully sweet red dessert wine only produced in the best vintages.
Harvesting is all manual and is carried out at full ripeness. After a start of traditional winemaking, the fermentation is blocked before pressing by a mutage "sur grains“, the addition of brandy. This technique, combined with a long maceration (14 to 20 days), allows an optimal extraction of aromatic and flavor components. Part of the wine is aged in barrels while the other part is aged in tank in order to preserve the fruity aromas.
The color is ruby red with purple reflections. This Banyuls reveals aromas of ripe red and black fruits on the nose. On the palate, it is full and well balanced, with notes of chocolate, blackcurrant and blackberry jam, supported by delicate woody notes.
