About Grand Moulin 1999 Pauillac
A rare discovery. If you're a fan of aged Bordeaux we've got just the wine for you. This beauty from the heart of Bordeaux' diamond district, Pauillac, has matured gracefully for just over two decades. It's taken on all of the dried cherry, dried plums, wild mushroom, tanned leather and forest earthiness that fans of aged Bordeaux wait years for their wines to acquire.
This wine is from a small property in Pauillac (where three First Growths are located) of under 50 acres with gravel and clay soils, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. From the underrated 1999 vintage which was overshadowed by 1998 and 2000. It produced some very fine wines with good structure including this wine that had the backbone of tannins and the good balanced acidity that allowed it to age with elegance.
A word of caution, if you're looking for forward fruit and freshness you won't find it here. This is strictly a lesson in well aged Bordeaux wine, and at this price you may just want to give it a try.
