About Hand of Fate 2015 Chardonnay, Carneros
What a find!! Winemaker Adrian Foot earned his viticulture and enology degree from Stellenbosch University and started his career in winemaking in South Africa. It wasn't long before Adrian was given the opportunity to work a vintage at world famous Napa Valley winery Screaming Eagle Vineyards which he jumped on. He's currently Assistant Winemaker at Dunn Vineyard in Howell Mountain but his South African roots are still strong. That's why he's launched his own winemaking project Hand of Fate where he produces only Chardonnay; one from South Africa and this one from California. By making small batch, limited release wines, he takes only the best that nature has to offer and share this passion.
He sourced these Chardonnay grapes from a beautiful block of vineyard in the Southern-most part of Los Carneros in Napa Valley with cool air drawn in from the San Pablo Bay to preserve the acidity and just the right amount of sun to develop those complex flavors. Very subtle hints of French oak and well controlled malolactic fermentation was used to highlight the natural beauty of these grapes. Whole bunch pressing with no sulfur was followed by native yeast fermentation with 10 months aging in barrel, sur lie. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Antonio Galloni scored this 92 points saying "The 2015 Chardonnay is stellar. Lemon confit, white flowers, almond and chamomile infuse this deeply expressive Carneros Chardonnay. Elegant and classy, with notable richness but no excess weight, the 2015 is a winner."
We grabbed whatever we could of this delicious Chard, which wasn't much because of the extremely small production. But, and this is a big but, we're still managing to offer it to out Wine Express customers at a big savings. Don't Miss It!!
