Haras de Pirque is a union of two passions in a unique place where thoroughbred horse breeding and fine wine making come together. In Pirque, Chile in the foothills of the Andes they planted 290 acres of vineyards in 1992, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmnre. They produce outstanding wines and name them for their famous racehorses like this Hussonet Gran Reserva Cab. Owned by the famed Antinori Family of Tuscany their winemaking team led by Renzo Cotarella is in charge of the whole process. Grapes were hand-picked end of April. The special parcels selected for Hussonet undergo careful hand management throughout the year to produce grapes of very high quality. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah, the lots are vinified separately and the wine is aged 14 months in French oak barrels. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered. James Suckling scored this 2012 92 points and said "Aromas of lemon rind, spice, sweet tobacco and hints of currants. Full to medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Light spicy aftertaste to this. Drink now."
