About Hartford Court 2016 Chardonnay, Russian River Valley

Hartford Family Winery specializes in making wines from single vineyard sites but they also make a blended wine every vintage from a collection of small vineyards located throughout the Russian River Valley AVA. This is the 2016 Chardonnay version of that wine. The vineyards sourced are a combination of Estate properties such as Fog Dance, Bellflower and Bloomfield, as well as a handful of neighboring vineyards, located in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Grapes are all hand harvested at night or early morning to retain freshness. They are whole cluster pressed and the barrel fermented in 25% new French oak with indigenous yeast. Aged for 8 months overall in oak with weekly lees stirring and full malolactic fermentation. The wine is bottled with no fining and minimal filtration. Antonio Galloni scored this 93 points saying "Bright, fresh and nuanced, the 2016 Chardonnay (Russian River) has so much to offer. The Russian River Chardonnay is a distinctly mid-weight wine built on expressive citrus and floral character. It also happens to be the hidden gem in this range." and Wine Enthusiast Magazine made this an "Editors' Choice" with a 93 point score. They said "This wine spends a shorter time in barrel in a lower percentage of new oak and is an impressive barrel selection of several vineyard properties across the appellation. It opens with a nose of charcuterie and brined martini olive, its texture rich, creamy and layered in Tarte Tatin and baked mango."
