Heitz Vineyards has a well-earned reputation for producing high quality, distinctive Napa Valley wines, particularly Cabernets. The style is always full-bodied, well-extracted with immense structure. One of the unique aspects to their production is the length of time that they age their Cabs before release.
This Cab is barrel aged 4 years in the cellar aging in French oak vessels both old and new. This allows the tannins to soften and the flavors to coalesce resulting in a wine that shows its full expression on release.
This is their latest release 2016, another outstanding vintage for Napa Cab. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced primarily from two of their estate vineyards in St. Helena, the Only One Vineyard and the Spring Valley Vineyard. There is also some fruit from a vineyard in Rutherford, all certified organic.
2016 was an outstanding vintage and this wine shows the freshness and intensity that you would expect along with beautifully polished tannins and the concentration to age gracefully for another decade.
