Keith and Cherie Hughes pursued a shared vision in 2001 with the purchase of two organic vineyards in Glen Ellen, California. Initially, their intention was to grow exceptional fruit, a goal that evolved into making superb wines that reflect the unique terroir of their land. Hughes Family Vineyards is a small family-run certified organic vineyard and winery located in the foothills above Glen Ellen where the Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Mountain and Bennett Valley appellations meet. They have followed sustainable farming and winemaking practices since their vineyards were first planted, without the use of any synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides or pesticides.
They lay claim to the famed Wild Turkey Vineyard, home to some of the best Zinfandel vines in Sonoma. It sits at an elevation of 825 feet and is a designated California Certified Organic Farm. The hillside soils here bring out the old school Zin character in their wines, focusing on juicy and jammy fruit with ample spice and mineral character.
This 2010 Reserve Zinfandel is dark ruby red in color, with complex aromas of dried fig, cherry, raspberry, clean earth and espresso. The palate is rich and supple with luscious red fruits, pepper and smoke. Mouthwatering acidity balances with beautifully integrated tannins, leading to lengthy and satisfying finish.
