Ideology 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, Oak Knoll, Napa Valley

A Napa Cab steal that you won't want to miss!  After running a world-class custom crush facility in Oak Knoll that the Wine Spectator called a "Hidden gem in Napa Valley" the Williamson family sold the facility but kept the best vineyards and built their own winery. Since then they have produced stunning Napa Cabs which have garnered 95 point scores and landed on Top 100 lists.


Their estate vineyard is located on a special parcel in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. The vineyard borders Dry Creek at the base of the Mayacamas Mountain range and is located in the largest of 10 alluvial fan belts in Napa Valley. To Kalon as well as Ideologys’ vineyard site is situated on a gentle slope up towards the Mayacamas mountains. The slope consists of an alluvial fan created by the deposition of sediments transported in various streams for the mountain down to the bottom of the valley. The larger sediment particles tend to stay further up the hillside, while the smaller particles are carried further down the valley. The well-drained sandy and gravelly loam soils, in partnership with moderate temperatures, yield concentrated fruit with great flavor intensity, yet a supple mouth-feel.


The vineyard is planted to three different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. For this 2014 each of the four vineyard blocks were hand-harvested at dawn and carefully hand sorted. The wine is aged for 20 months in an assortment of the finest French oak barrels that are chosen to complement the subtle nuances of the vineyard. The selection of these barrels further enhances the length, depth and complexity of this varietal and reveals a well-integrated wine that is made to last. This wine is drinking beautifully right now with lush, black cherry and blackberry fruit dusted with spice and cedar and framed buy rich, polished tannins. The flavors linger and this wine will clearly continue to deliver over the next 5-8 years.
