About Il Palagio 2016 Sister Moon, Toscana Red
Villa Il Palagio estate lies amid the rolling hills of the lush, fertile Tuscan countryside south of Florence. The private home of Sting and his wife Trudie Styler and the favorite retreat for their friends and growing family, this truly remarkable sixteenth-century estate nestles among the vineyards of the Chianti region.
From the mid-1500s Il Palagio has harvested, fermented and bottled its own wines. Sting and Trudie have gone to great lengths to keep the tradition alive. Using organic farming methods, they have replanted 27 acres of vineyards since 2000. Named after Sting’s song “Sister Moon” this was the first IGT Toscano wine produced at Il Palagio. It is a blend of 40% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged for 24 months in new French barriques. Sister Moon has aromas of black pepper and black licorice with blackberries. It is medium to full-bodied, with soft and round tannins and a polished tannic finish as well as fruit-forward and elegant and with a hint of chocolate.
James Suckling scores this 94 points saying, "Gorgeous aromas of crushed berries and currants with violet and lavender undertones. Full body, fine tannins and a long and polished finish. Shows drive and focus. From organically grown sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Sting and Trudy Styler are the wine producers. Better after 2021, but a beauty already."
