Nestled in the Southern Willamette Valley, Iris Vineyards is a small winery owned by native Oregonians, Richard Boyles and Pamela Frye. Richard got the wine bug early in life, making wine with his grandmother from local grapes. Now with Iris Vineyards winery they’re producing world-class, award winning wines from grapes grown in their 45 acre Chalice estate vineyard as well as other prime vineyards in Oregon. Their production is small and it’s rare to come across them so when we got the opportunity to grab a quantity we jumped!
This wine Pinot is from the 2014 vintage, about which Wine Business Magazine wrote "The 2014 vintage in Oregon may be remembered as the vintage of a lifetime. From bud break through harvest, growers and winemakers throughout the state experienced an almost ideal growing season that delivered a record amount of exceptional, balanced fruit." 66% of the grapes are sourced from their Chalice Estate and another 20% are from other top vineyards in the Willamette Valley. The wine aged 8 months in French oak barrels. Awarded a Gold Medal and “Best In Class” in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition!
It shows aromas of raspberry, cranberry, strawberry, woodsmoke and earth. On the palate it’s smooth and supple with perky mouthwatering acidity and a beautiful array of complex flavors; strawberry, cranberry, cola, sasafrass, smoked almonds and tart cherry. The supply is very limited on this Oregon gem but for our Wine Express customers we’re offering it at deep discount, so please act quickly, you’ll be glad that you did!
