About Jacopo Biondi-Santi 2018 Sassoalloro, Toscana IGT
Jacopo Biondi Santi comes from the famous Brunello di Montalcino family. Jacopo works his family estate with care and commitment. The Castello di Montepo is a medieval fortress with about 170 acres of vineyards. Montepo was the castle from which Jacopo’s great-grandfather cloned and registered the first Sangiovese for Brunello.Sassoalloro is the flagship of the estate. This Super-Tuscan is made from 100% Sangiovese grosso (BBS 11).
Grapes are hand-harvested and and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is aged 14 months in barriques of untoasted Tronçais oak.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 90 points saying "Made with 100% Sangiovese, this has aromas of forest floor, camphor, Mediterranean scrub and a hint of hazelnut. Linear and rather light-bodied, the palate suggests dried cherry, blood orange and grilled sage before finishing on a hint of star anise. Taut, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity provide lithe support."
