About Jordan 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley

Jordan Vineyards almost single-handedly put Alexander Valley on the map. Since the release of their first wine, the 1976 Cabernet Sauvignon, they've been a standard bearer for what this warm-climate corner of Sonoma County can produce. And year after year Jordan's Cabernets continue to deliver bold, ripe flavors, beautifully polished with ideal balance for aging.

For this 2015, more than 60 vineyard blocks from Jordan Estate and 13 family growers were sourced (85% Alexander Valley, 13% Mendocino County, 2% Dry Creek Valley). The grape lots are kept separate by vineyard. Each gets 19 days extended maceration and every lot is reevaluated after primary fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is completed in upright oak casks before assemblage to create the "barrel blend."  The wines are aged for 13 months in 47% new oak. Six French barrel coopers were selected based on blind tastings and vintage flavor profile; primarily medium toast. Post malolactic fermentation, individual lots are blind tasted and ranked, then assembled into the "barrel blend." After one year in barrels, the "barrel blend" is reassessed and only top lots are combined for the final master blend. The wine was then bottle aged until release in May 2019. This 2015 is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec.

Decanter Magazine scored this 91 points saying "Jordan always swims against the tide, eschewing overt oak and overripeness. The wine is more Bordeaux-like than almost any from California, with subtle hints of herbs and spice, a fresh, clean, mouthwatering profile, and reasonable alcohol. Stick it in the celiar for a decade or more. Drinking Window 2024 - 2034”

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 92 points saying “This wine represents the first time the winery has aged its red in entirely French oak, switching slowly over from American. Notions of clove and vanilla accent sanguine red fruit and savory elements.”
