About Kendall Jackson 2017 Pinot Noir, Jackson Estate, Petaluma Gap, Sonoma

Here's a rare treat. This luscious Pinot Noir has previously only been available to fine restaurant customers. The brand new Petaluma Gap AVA, established in 2018, has grabbed the attention of Pinot Noir lovers as it pinpoints a special microclimate in the Sonoma Coast where the coastal range drops down and lets in the cooling Pacific ocean breezes and fog. This tempers the ripening grapes allowing them to ripen slowly with superb balance as the winds buffeting the clusters keeps the berries small and thickens the skins giving the grapes intense flavor and added backbone.

Grapes for this wine are all sourced from the single Cloud Landing Vineyard Estate Vineyard. A 100% Pinot Noir mix of Calera, 667 and 777 clones are fermented in temperature controlled tanks. The wine then aged 10 months in 30% new oak, 98% French.

Wine Spectator scored this 90 points saying "A delicate red, with notes of violet and crushed granite to the bright cherry, pomegranate and wild berry flavors. The spicy finish reveals hints of hot stone. Drink now through 2022."

The Wine Advocate scored this 92 points saying "The 2017 Jackson Estate Pinot Noir Petaluma Gap, aged 10 months in 30% new oak, has a pale to medium ruby color with a nose of granite, wild blackberries and fresh cranberries with notes of underbrush, bay leaf, citrus peel and sweet spice. The palate is light to medium-bodied, silky and intense with a good balance of bright fruits, spices and earthy notions. It has a frame of grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and bright. Delicious!"
