A fantastic find!! L'Enclos de Ramage is Chateau Ramage La Batisse Cru Bourgeois's second wine. The property is located in Saint-Sauveur near Pauillac, just a short walk from famous First Growths like Lafite Rothschild and Latour. It used to encompass plots from the former estates of Ramage, La Batisse and Tourteran that now all adjoin into a single estate with 144 acres of vines. A full renovation and modernization upgrade of the winery was done when the new owners took possession in 1986. As well, the vineyards have all been improved and maintained on the well-drained gravelly soils. The vines average a mature 40 years of age.
In the outstanding 2015 vintage, there was an abundance of prime fruit to go around, so this second-label wine was produced and vastly over-achieved. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot aged 6 months in French oak barrels. This 2015 has been aging gently in the Chateau's cellars over the last 5+ years and has just arrived at us.
Awarded a Silver Medal in the Concours de Bordeaux Competition this red is delightfully alive and has all the qualities of a well-aged Medoc with dried cherry and black currant, cured tobacco, wild mushroom and a hint of mineral dust. Still vibrant but with the silky suppleness that only gentle bottle aging can bring.
Because this was the second-label wine from this Cru Bourgeois Haut-Medoc Chateau the price was fair to start with. But after the arrangement we made, it’s a downright steal! Don’t miss this beautiful pre-aged '15 Bordeaux, it won’t hang around long.
